For independent phonics tutors and parents

Keep phonics practice focused and connected

Bridging Phonics gives adults one place to record what they have observed, see what has been marked for practice and choose what to work on next — alongside the phonics programme a child uses at school.

Parent accounts are free. Tutor tools include a 30-day free trial, then cost £3.99 per month.

Why adults use it

  • Built around how phonics is taught

Follows the sounds, phases and statuses a school programme already uses, rather than inventing its own.

  • Designed for adult-led practice

A parent or tutor leads the session. The app keeps the record.

  • Supports a child's school programme

Follow the progression the child already meets in the classroom.

  • The adult owns every judgement

Nothing is inferred, scored automatically or attributed to you without your say.

A useful record, not another assessment making decisions for you

  1. Step 1

    Start with the child's programme

Choose the phonics progression the child follows at school. If you are not sure, you can say so rather than forcing a match.

  2. Step 2

    Record what you observe

Mark the child's current phonics status as you work together. Bridging Phonics does not diagnose or decide attainment: the judgement remains yours.

  3. Step 3

    Choose a clear practice focus

See what you have marked for practice, including sounds that have repeatedly been difficult across recorded tutor sessions.

  4. Step 4

    Keep progress visible

Return to the same record next time instead of reconstructing it from memory or scattered notes. A linked parent can open their own account and see the progress their child's tutor has recorded.

For parents

Keep track of up to two children, choose what to practise and make home phonics work more focused. If your child's tutor links with you, you can also see the progress that tutor records.

Made to sit alongside school phonics teaching

Children may meet different orders, terminology and correspondences depending on the programme their school follows. Bridging Phonics helps adults keep their record aligned with that programme instead of introducing a competing teaching sequence.

Bridging Phonics is a supporting record and practice tool. It is not a complete systematic synthetic phonics programme, a school replacement, a diagnostic assessment or a substitute for specialist advice.
